Backpacks for Kids provides new backpacks full of school supplies to children in need throughout Yolo County.  In 2007, we helped over 250 children who would not otherwise have the resources to buy school supplies. In addition to backpacks and supplies, we also provided many children with clothes, desks, and bike helmets.

Many people do not realize the level of demand for these items. Last year, we had over 850 requests from children who did not have sufficient supplies to start their school year properly. The one thing that all children need to be successful in life is an education.  Providing a backpack and proper supplies to a child builds esteem and prepares them properly to succeed throughout the school year.

It was great fun for several hundred community members, and our way of saying “THANK YOU” to all our friends and neighbors who so far have donated over $25,000 in cash and school supplies to our local children.

We are still collecting donations for the 2008 fundraising drive until August 15, 2008.
